Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Participates in the World Federation for Medical Education Conference 2025

The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties participated in the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) Conference and its accompanying exhibition, which was held in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, from May 25 to 28, 2025. This participation forms part of the SCFHS’s ongoing efforts to advance health education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to share its experience with the global health education community. The Commission’s delegation was headed by Dr. Hussein bin Abdullah Al-Hussein, Assistant Secretary-General for Institutional Affairs, who stated that the SCFHS’s participation aligns with its strategic objectives to exchange expertise with leading international institutions in the fields of health education and training. The delegation also took part in a number of meetings and panel discussions aimed at presenting the Saudi Board experience and highlighting its impact on developing national healthcare professionals across various specialties. In addition, the Commission showcased its approach to attracting outstanding international candidates to train within the Saudi Board programs. Furthermore, the participation highlighted the Commission’s leading role in integrating the healthcare system with health education and training frameworks for various categories of healthcare practitioners in the Kingdom. This integration has demonstrated a positive impact on the Saudi experience and contributes to achieving the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program and Human Capability Development Program under Saudi Vision 2030.

Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Participates in the BIO International Convention to Strengthen the Kingdom’s Role in Innovation and Biotechnology

The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties participated as part of the Saudi Pavilion delegation in the BIO International Convention for Biotechnology 2025, held in Boston, United States, from June 16 to 19. The convention is regarded as one of the world’s leading global platforms in the fields of biotechnology and health innovation. During its participation, SCFHS highlighted its role as a leading national regulatory authority dedicated to developing healthcare competencies and enabling them to compete globally. This is achieved through an integrated education and training ecosystem focused on the quality of outcomes. The Commission also took part in a workshop titled “Empowering a Biotechnology-Ready Health Workforce: The Role of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties in Capacity Building.” The workshop addressed several key themes, including the transformation of the healthcare workforce ecosystem, emerging skills in the biotechnology sector, and challenges related to workforce readiness and talent attraction. This participation reflects SCFHS’s commitment to building a sustainable healthcare ecosystem that supports innovation and keeps pace with the growth of the biotechnology sector. The Commission concluded its participation by signing a cooperation agreement with Sanofi, aimed at developing joint training programs and enhancing the exchange of expertise in the fields of biomanufacturing, health innovation, and clinical trials. The agreement also includes collaboration in capacity building, knowledge transfer, and the development of professional frameworks, contributing to localization efforts and the development of national capabilities in biotechnology and digital health, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

5,125 Graduates in 2024: Saudi Board Achieves Its Greatest Milestone Since Inception

The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties continues its efforts to advance postgraduate training programs, foremost among them the Saudi Board Certificate, with the aim of preparing highly qualified healthcare professionals who contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services in the Kingdom. In 2024, the program recorded several notable achievements, graduating its largest cohort since inception, with a total of 5,125 graduates. During the same year, the training capacity of the Saudi Board expanded to 7,057 training seats, reflecting a 26% increase compared to the previous year. This growth underscores the effectiveness of SCFHS’s regulatory role and its responsiveness to the evolving needs of the healthcare sector. As part of its efforts to enhance the training environment, the Commission continued to adopt best international practices and models as it adopted the Virtual Health Hospital as a training center for the Saudi Board and activated digital education models and virtual healthcare practice, contributing to diversified learning approaches and alignment with global developments in health education. At the international level, the program witnessed a significant qualitative shift during the same year with its inclusion in the “Study in Saudi Arabia” initiative, reaffirming its academic standing and global recognition. The Saudi Board attracted 147 graduates from 21 countries, while the number of international trainees reached 764 trainees representing 38 nationalities. Since the program’s launch, the number of non-Saudi graduates has exceeded 2,900. The Saudi Board supports the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the strategic pillars of Saudi Vision 2030, by building a sustainable professional ecosystem that enhances the efficiency of national healthcare talent and strengthens the sector’s readiness to address future challenges. With the launch of the Commission’s new 2025–2030 Strategy, the program is entering a phase of broader reach and greater impact, reinforcing the Kingdom’s role as a global hub for the development of distinguished healthcare professionals.
