Anesthesia
Specialization Summary

A specialty concerned with anesthesiology and includes basic skills and sciences of patient’s anesthesia and care before and after surgical operations, labor and some specific surgical intervention.

Core Competencies

Theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge of the following:

  1. Skills that are essential for practicing anesthesia and different treatment options of the specialty and competency to perform the same for different age groups.
  2. Skills in clinical evaluation, taking history and medical diagnosis of most diseases and injuries for different age groups and knowing the appropriate medical options of anesthesia for them.
  3. All risks resulting from anesthesia and the ability to make decisions for all types of anesthesia procedures.
  4. Different methods of treatment and control of acute and chronic pains.
  5. All types of drugs of analgesia and anesthesia.
  6. Management of critical and ICU patients.

It also includes asthma, rhinitis, nasal sinuses issues or seasonal allergy and vaccinations, etc. Moreover, it includes interactions and reactions of drugs, food and others that threaten life. Furthermore, it includes immunological diseases that involve man.

Core Competencies

Theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge of the following:

  1. Diagnosis, assessment and making a complete treatment plan including reviews and instructions in any immunology and allergy sciences.
  2. Basic sciences of anatomy, physiology, autoimmune diseases, immune mechanisms and cells involved in immune responses. This includes differentiation, origin, reception, interactions and secretion.
  3. Basic sciences allergens and antigens including criteria that are not related to the disease, methods of measurement and avoidance of hypersensitivity and other immunological disturbances. This is in addition to microbiology and clinical immunology.
  4. Basic skills in diagnosis methods used in immunology and clinical allergy sciences, including indications, contraindications, principles of application and methods of interpretation.
  5. General principles and treatment methods used in clinical immunology.
  6. Management of emergency and critical cases related to the immune system. This includes acute cases of hypersensitivity that involve multiple vital systems in the body.

  1. Diagnosis, assessment and making a complete treatment plan including reviews and instructions of any infectious diseases.
  2. Providing urgent care for emergency cases.
  3. Etiology, epidemiology, normal history and pathology of all infectious diseases.
  4. Protection and prevention of infection and spread of infectious diseases.
  5. Infection control and prevention inside hospitals and health facilities. This includes follow-up and treatment of infection of healthcare professionals during work.
  6. Ordering laboratory investigations, medical imaging and taking samples and biopsies to reach the medical diagnosis.
  7. Drugs, antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals. This includes limiting bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
  8. Counseling in premarital tests to prevent sexually transmitted diseases between spouses.

Further, it cares for physiological development of blood, bone marrow, blood vessels, spleen and lymph nodes.

Theoretical, practical, and procedural knowledge of the following:

  1. Diagnosis, assessment and making a complete treatment plan including reviews and instructions of any hematological diseases and disorders.
  2. Diagnosis, investigations and management of acute leukemia, myeloproliferative disorders, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, hemorrhagic clots and disorders, Hemoglobinopathy and all benign hematological diseases.
  3. Reading, interpretation and acquaintance of hematological laboratory investigations and methods of coagulation tests. Further, it includes blood film preparation and interpretation, ability to perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy and interpretation of bone marrow samples and biopsies.
  4. Performing lumbar puncture for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and CSF assessment.
  5. Acquaintance of basic skills in stem cells transplant.
  6. Using chemotherapy, its mechanism of action, knowing short and long-term side effects and acquaintance of multimodal treatment, including using radiation therapy and surgery.
  7. Immunological mechanisms related to hematological oncological diseases, stem cell transplant, knowing the appropriate use of immunosuppressive agents and treatment of bacterial and fungal infections.
  8. Basic genetics in the way of inheriting different hematological and oncological diseases and general principles of genetics.

  1. Diagnosis, assessment and making a complete treatment plan including reviews and instructions in neurology and applying knowledge of clinical, and biomedical sciences related to neurology.
  2. Basic sciences of anatomy, embryological development, physiology, pathology, and nervous system; in addition to developmental neurology, genetics and epigenetics of neurology.
  3. Basic skills in neurotherapy including behavioral therapy for neuromodulation, medical, rehabilitation, interventional neurological and surgical treatments.
  4. Basic knowledge of neurology, pathology and their etiology; in addition to clinical criteria including symptoms and signs, normal history, diagnosis of neurological cases and making the treatment plan.
  5. Rehabilitation for the treatment of neurological patients and pathophysiology and principles of brain death declaration.
  6. Basic skills in mental status examination, including tests and standard tests of cortical function. Further, it includes comatose patient examination, eye nerves examination and motion sickness test, etc.
  7. Neurological medical imaging, EEG tests and the study of nerve conduction.

  1. Diagnosis and assessment including reviews and instructions of any of the diseases that require using radiotherapy.
  2. Basic principles of radiation physics, radiobiology, and radiation safety.
  3. Clinical assessment and determining the stages of patients with cancer.
  4. Role of radiotherapy in the treatment of cancer.
  5. Importance of taking multiple and different approaches between medical specialties for the treatment of malignant tumors.
  6. The process through which treatment plans are made. This includes understanding the tumor size, considerations of normal histology, and normal history of the disease.
  7. Implementation and verification of radiotherapy plans for patient with cancer.
