Every year, medicine changes. Treatment guidelines are updated. New diagnostic tools move from research into daily practice. Laws and regulations develop. New ways of thinking about the medical profession continue to emerge.

For this reason, medical books are not a luxury. Reading them is not only about looking at new titles on a shelf. Medical books are an important need for every healthcare practitioner. They help professionals improve their knowledge while also enjoying meaningful reading.

In 2025, many important medical books were published. In this article, we highlight selected Arabic-language books that may interest healthcare practitioners from medical, scientific, skills-based, and cultural perspectives.

A book about choosing a specialty and medical education

We begin with the choice of specialty. Choosing a university major is a major challenge for many young people. It is also a source of concern for families when students complete secondary school.

The book “The Road to Medical School: A Journey of Science and Passion” by Professor Dr. Mohammed bin Yahya Al-Shahri offers clear guidance on how to choose a medical specialty. It explains the factors that should be considered when making this decision and how to select a path that increases the chance of success and supports personal goals.

The author also provides practical advice for preparing students for university life in general and medical school in particular. He explains how students can benefit from their university experience, recognize available opportunities, and prepare for expected challenges.

The book also describes the student journey through medical school and the skills needed to become a successful physician. This work reflects more than thirty years of experience in higher education. During his career, the author served as a university professor, dean of a medical college, and university president, in addition to holding senior academic leadership roles. The book was published by the Arab Scientific Publishers.

Books related to medical specialties

We now move to books related to medical specialties. In this section, we recommend two books for healthcare practitioners.

The first is “Physiology of Sleep and Its Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment.” This book combines scientific foundations with clinical practice in sleep medicine, a field that has become increasingly important in modern life.

Today, sleep problems are more common due to artificial lighting, long working hours, and excessive use of smartphones, even before bedtime.

The book explains how sleep works and how it is regulated in the human body. It then presents sleep disorders in a clear and organized way. Modern diagnostic tools are explained, especially polysomnography, along with advanced technologies. The book also presents treatment approaches based on the latest research, supported by real clinical cases that help physicians apply knowledge in daily practice.

The book is written by Professor Dr. Ahmed Salem Omar Bahammam, Director of the University Sleep Disorders Center at King Saud University in Riyadh. His long experience in sleep medicine is clear in the practical and balanced style of the book. It meets both academic standards and the daily needs of clinicians. The book was published by the Arab Center for the Authorship and Translation of Health Sciences in Kuwait.

The second book, “Multiple Sclerosis: Your Guide to Understanding It” provides a clear and reliable introduction to multiple sclerosis.

It explains the nature of the disease, possible causes, and common symptoms. It also describes diagnostic steps based on modern scientific standards.

The book reviews current treatment options and available medications that aim to reduce relapses, slow disease progression, and improve quality of life. It also highlights recent drug developments, including treatments approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority.

In addition to medical information, the book discusses daily living with multiple sclerosis. It addresses practical challenges, nutrition, physical activity, psychological support, and the importance of regular medical follow-up.

The book is written by Dr. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Mutlaq, Consultant Neurologist and specialist in immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system and multiple sclerosis at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh. His clinical experience adds strong value to the book, as the information is presented from real daily practice. The language is simple and accessible, helping patients and families understand the disease from a trusted medical source and make informed decisions throughout their care journey.

Publications related to corporate communication in the healthcare sector

The book “What Is Not Said in the Curriculum” by Essam Al-Ghamdi, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communication at the Health Holding Company, is an engaging work that explores the field of corporate communication. It serves as an important reference for anyone seeking to develop skills in this area.

The book presents practical experience and explains corporate communication as an essential tool for healthcare practitioners—one that is no less important than clinical knowledge.

It highlights that many communication challenges, especially in building effective health awareness messages, are not taught in academic courses. However, these skills have a direct impact on public trust and on the effectiveness of health messages delivered to society.

The book offers healthcare practitioners 22 practical tips to help them communicate more effectively, participate thoughtfully in awareness campaigns, and build a professional image that reflects the credibility and mission of healthcare institutions. Through this approach, practitioners can play a more active role in community engagement and in creating a positive health impact.

A book on organization, quality management, and patient safety

Let us now move to another important context. Medicine, at its core, is not only knowledge to be memorized. It is a system that must be managed. Medical knowledge produces real results only when it is applied within an organized practice—clear clinical pathways, defined roles, accurate documentation, and monitoring systems that measure performance and correct errors.

As the level of organization improves—from appointment and record management to quality control and patient safety, and from medication management to human and financial resources—the healthcare institution becomes more capable of reducing waste, delivering faster services, and improving the quality of care. In this way, resources such as time, staff, equipment, and data are transformed into real health value.

Within this context, we begin this part of our journey with the book “Organizational Behavior in Healthcare Institutions and Patient Safety.”

This book provides a comprehensive analytical overview of both classical and modern theories of organizational behavior within healthcare settings. It translates these theories into practical steps that help motivate healthcare workers and improve job satisfaction, which directly reflects on the quality of services provided to patients.

The book also presents contemporary leadership models supported by real-life examples to strengthen teamwork effectiveness. In addition, it includes practical tools for evaluation and analysis that help measure performance, identify areas for improvement, and support sustainable process development rather than temporary solutions.

The book is authored by Dr. Asma bint Abdullah Al-Yamani, Head of the Health Administration Department at the College of Business Administration, King Saud University.

A book documenting the historical journey of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre

We now move to a different kind of book—one that tells the story of a remarkable institution: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre. This institution is considered one of the leading healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia and has remained, for decades, a cornerstone of medical innovation, high-quality patient care, and research excellence.

Founded in 1975, the hospital gradually became a landmark in specialized medicine within the Kingdom, establishing itself as a leading center for advanced therapies.

This story is at the heart of the book “The Heart of the Desert: Transforming Global Health Care.” The book includes original photographs and illustrative drawings and offers an in-depth exploration of the institution as one of the key drivers shaping the future of healthcare in the region.

Within the broader transformation of Saudi Vision 2030, the book highlights the hospital’s role in reshaping the healthcare sector through the adoption of technology, the promotion of patient-centered care, and the reinforcement of a culture of continuous learning.

A novel about a patient’s experience in a Ministry of Health hospital

The novel “September Night” is a powerful human testimony of a difficult experience that changed the course of life. The story is based on a real accident that the author experienced, which led her into a coma in an intensive care unit at one of the Saudi Ministry of Health hospitals.

In this work, the author writes from inside the intensive care unit, describing how a patient can still feel the presence of others even during moments of unconsciousness. She explains how pain and fear can be deeply felt without the ability to speak or react. The novel goes beyond describing the accident itself and explores its lasting psychological and emotional impact, revealing both human fragility and inner strength at the same time.

“September Night” is not only a novel about pain. It is also a story of survival, of human compassion received during the healing journey, and of memory as a tool for understanding the self and rebuilding life after trauma.
